A Message from Cassandra Clare
Greetings, Shadowhunter Army!
As Shadowhunters don’t follow mundane religions, they don’t observe the same winter holidays that other cultures do. However, they have historically observed a winter festival of the Angel, which is held on the day when the Angel Raziel is said to have presented the Mortal Instruments to Jonathan Shadowhunter.

The celebration traditionally involved setting paper lanterns on fire and sailing them out onto Lake Lyn in Idris.
In the old days, people would pilgrimage to the tomb of Jonathan Shadowhunter and tuck notes documenting their wishes for the upcoming year into the cairn of stones piled there. Over the years, location of the tomb has been forgotten, so now wishes are written on pieces of paper that are cast into the hearth, where they burn up overnight. Also, spiced wine is drunk.
Happy reading!
